After working in-house for almost 10 years, in 2022, I decided to become a consultant.
I joined a great company. Everything was going well.
I was making the most money I had ever made in my life.
I worked on my own schedule.
I had control over my time and work-life balance.
It was honestly one of the best periods of my career.
But slowly, things started to change.
More calls. More expectations. More involvement in day-to-day work.
By the second year, I no longer felt like a consultant or partner.
I felt like an employee.
And that wasn’t what I wanted at that stage of my life.
I always knew I wanted to build my own company someday.
But life was also chaotic.
My wife had just given birth to our second child.
We had just moved into a new house.
We had a young family to support.
That’s when I realized I had two options.
A. Continue the job and keep making “great” money
Or
B. Quit and start building my own company
Anyone with a sane mind would have chosen the first option.
(Looking back, it was probably the worst possible time to quit.)
But I still did it.
I told my wife I wanted to leave my job and start my own company.
It felt like a now-or-never moment.
Three years later, I’m glad I made that decision.
